Emerson goes in the same basket for me as Thoreau. Exceptionally good (but heady) writers, but very very verbose. I've cottoned onto their message and they're not even halfway done, and they start losing me. If people find him comforting or an inspiration, I am genuinely happy for them. But I think people posting inspirational Emerson quotes might have missed his point. I give Emerson big props for saying himself, "Look, I'm just trying to figure this out too. You need to live your own way."
