The Last Thing To Burn by Will Dean was a heart-wrenching novel. Though short and distinct, each sentence packed unbelievable depth and emotion. This story of willpower feels hopeless at every turn, and yet, each page becomes easier and easier to turn as you peel back the layers of text. As you grow to feel trapped with the narrator, her emotions become overwhelmingly prevalent, which only expand as the novel reaches its crescendo. While this novel handles a lot of dark topics, the most important underlying emotion we see is always love, which I feel like is important to note when talking about such a heavy read. If you want to check out this title, I would certainly recommend taking a look at the trigger warnings, as there is a lot of content here that some might find triggering without adequate warning. I would highly recommend seeking out a copy to add to your TBR if you can handle the content, as the read is definitely worth it.
