Firefly: Life Signs by James Lovegrove

5.0

How far would you go to save the life of one that you love…even if you’re not willing to admit it?

Firefly - Life Signs by James Lovegrove is the fifth firefly novel, continuing plots set between the show and the movie.

Urilizing an undeveloped subplot from the show, Inara is dying. Sure she left the crew of the Serenity a while back, but she’s still family kind of…and more than that to Captain Malcom Reynolds.

Unfortunately, it’s a rare deadly king of sickness, but a tip from former crewmate Shepherd Book puts them only a scientist…one that might have a cure…or at least an inkling of a cure.

However…there’s a hitch. Accused of human experimentation, this doctor was arrested and sentenced to prison…on an ice planet.:.

Thus begins a story in two parts…a Wild West throwback jail break where things keep going wrong.

Mal, Zoe, Simon, and Jayne infiltrate a prison, avoid troublesome inmates, run afoul of regulators, and try to find their objective where necessary…even on the frozen ice.

Meanwhile, the rest of the crew of the Serenity plays cat and mouse with a pair of Allince patrol boats as River gets her first chance to try and pilot.

It’s all good fun, and I definitely prefer this author as the main chronicler of the continuing adventures of the Firefly-class vessel the Serenity.
