I wanted to like this, but it mostly read as a series of disjointed scenes with fairly stereotypical characters strung together to make a novel. The problem that the main characters needed to overcome only appeared in the last 20% of the book, and I don't think the author dealt with it satisfactorily. In addition, there's no actual closure for the one major issue the author reveals late in the story, although the ending is somewhat hopeful.
