All the Ugly and Wonderful Things by Bryn Greenwood
Did not finish book. Stopped at 63%.
Most books on my dnf are there because I just didn't vibe with it so I haven't rated all or given them reviews.
But this book is pretty fucking problematic. There is relationship between a child (8 yrs I think I tried reading it 3-4yrs ago) and an adult man (likely 25) which is romanticized.
There is a word for this PEDOPHILIA. Stop normalising or romanticing it. In no world no matter how traumatic or problematic the childhood is; is this okay.
I read a big chunk of this book because the writing was beautiful and I assumed that I was only getting wrong signals and there is nothing like that in it. I continued till it was explicit.
But fuck. NO AMOUNT OF BEAUTIFUL WRITING OR CHILDHOOD TRAUMA MAKES PEDOPHILIA OKAY. IT IS NEVER EVER OKAY.
I've seen so many reviews praise this book which is why I decided I should write one even though I dnf it a few years ago. In fact the average rating of this book on GR is 4.06.
I hate it when to make people realise the error they use this technique. But here I am you would not be okay if that was your sister or daughter. Sometime people say we're only against this when it's a younger female. No the gender does not matter here. It is always wrong. See my review for The Reader.
