Keep in mind I had to read this book, but I think this is definitely a case where it was not for me. The intent from the class was to learn about the culture of this region of Africa, but I mostly just felt confused. It is character-driven to a fault, seeming like a slice of life more than a coherent plot, and by the end, there is still a lot of unresolved conflict.
Moderate: Body horror, Gore, Religious bigotry, and Colonisation
