“Life, if you could call it that, was a never-ending out-of-body experience.” —Hannah, page 56
funnily enough, in an oversaturated market of mycelium horror, i’ve only ever managed to catch hbo’s the last of us. regardless, i wasn’t as interested in the science of it all—biology / mycology isn’t my wheelhouse, unfortunately! paired with the quickness of the novel, and the way the plot just kept veering close enough to something actually gripping before slipping away from my hands, i didn’t enjoy it quite as much as i expected. what an oil-slick novella. still, i’m still fond of rio’s prose and the general atmosphere of this town and its motley crew of insomniacs. i recommend it if you’re just looking to pass the time.
