Capital by John Lanchester

Started really strongly. Brilliant skewering of noughties Clapham with humane wit and intelligence. It lacked surprises or perhaps spread itself too thinly so that the tying of loose ends seemed a little flat at the end. But nonetheless a real pleasure to read and one of the most insightful books about Londoner's preoccupations and dynamics I've read. Gentler than Bonfire of the Vanities but just as witty in its way.
