This book spends a lot of time undoing two of the major plot developments the previous book ended on, so my question is really why does this book exist when we could have just skipped those developments and had the end of this as an extended coda to book 1?

Oh well. It's just as fun as the first one, if not quite as strong. Higher stakes and a good ending make it worthwhile.
