Sophie Is Seven by Dick King-Smith
3.75
Read to granddaughter #3, age 7.
She enjoyed Sophie, the same age as her, and identified with her thoughts and experiences despite not being familiar with some of the British lingo and a few 30-year old references. Still, it was easy for her, and me, to cheer on a 7-year-old trying to accomplish her dream (being a lady farmer).
Among other things, Sophie spent time chasing animals at the farm, learning to ride a horse, performing in a play, trying to fundraise, and entertaining an aging great, great aunt. All while interacting with popular and not-so-popular classmates and relatives.
Upon completion of the book, my granddaughter told me Sophie was one of her favourite characters and would I try to find the next book in the series? That’s a fairly decent review in itself. 3.75
