Infinite Jest by David Foster Wallace

This is a looong book, with many interweaving threads, as well as many hundreds of pages of footnotes which are themselves integral to following the stories (many of the footnotes even have footnotes themselves). However, it is undeniably brilliant, and I found its long rhythms, great detail, endless diversions, and intricate prose both engrossing and compelling. There isn't a conventional plot so much as a set of overlapping stories, but they are beautifully told, and I was carried along over many weeks by them.
