“Every beautiful thing I see reminds me of you.” —Aiden Graves
u know despite this being such a long fucking book it actually makes sense that way because they were kind of unbearable for like the first third of the book ngl but one thing about me . . . i love pining and even if it took a little longer than usual i got it! did not enjoy the first third mostly because i thought the writing was sloppy and the pace was shaky but yk as the book progressed i was rattling the bars of my enclousire waiting for them to DO SOMETHING!!! and they did. so true

“Everybody’s got secrets.” —Nate Macauley, page 37
honestly it might’ve even been a 4 star book if i wasn’t cringing all the time (tumblr . . . of ALL the sites to use—it is a choice for sure). and like yeah subversion of all the high school stereotypes and whatnot but i’m not super emotionally attached to them. i was interested tho

i might like this the least of the entire trilogy but i think that it should’ve been condensed into a duology! regardless, i had a fun time <3

“But the problem with rules, he reflected, was that they implied a right way and a wrong way to do things. When, in fact, most of the time there were simply ways, none of them quite wrong or quite right, and nothing to tell you for sure which side of the line you stood on.” —Mrs. Richardson, page 269
i love books about motherhood and parenthood and character-driven based novels but this book was not for me. i personally rarely enjoy third person omniscient povs and paired with ng’s writing style and the off-putting pacing, reading this book was kind of a slog!

listen . . . the plot of this was interesting enough but the writing was so uninspired and dull, like this is a debut but it definitely reads like one (derogatory)

”We are all lonely creatures in our own way.” —Yuki Yamamoto, page 57
this was . . . not an enjoyable reading experience. literally found the same punctuation error twice in the span of ten pages and it was all downhill from there. i didn’t find any of these characters likeable, let alone real. nobody speaks like a real person and it boggles my mind. i never knew i could be against purple prose but like this truly is thee definition of bad purple prose and it shows. as a debut it makes sense but it reads like a bad fic and i genuinely wholeheartedly love books written by fic authors!!! this is just not good!!!! also i am not sympathetic toward an army brat idc if she’s a queer black woman 😭
