Even with Alistair's normal hijinks - and many of them brought me a lot of laughter - there is a fair amount of seriousness to the plot in this book. Tish's true plan comes to light. And boy, what a cliff hanger we have here. The next book Sorcerers Always Satisfy is already downloaded and ready to go. Thank goodness.

I read Dragon Ever After, the first book in the spin off series, before I read this one. Seeing the great interactions amongst the characters in that book, I quickly realized I didn't know Percy, Sam, Gideon, or Alistair's back stories, so I put aside that series and concentrated on this one.
I am so glad I did.
I loved Sam's backstory, and what a backstory he ends up having in this book. I particularly loved his interactions with Alistair and the first team at CSG. I had a lot of laughs during those times. I loved seeing Percy in his element and how much people love and respect him. And it's was nice seeing the "gentle" side that Sam brings out in Gideon.
And the "mystery plot" was excellent. I'm hoping we'll see more of it in some of the books in the series. I can't wait to learn more about the secondary characters. I plan to devour the rest of this series and any and all of the spinoff ones.

I enjoyed this start to the series. Both Percy and Brandt were great as well as the secondary characters.
However, since I had not read the "Hidden Species" series, I had some difficulty trying to keep the secondary characters straight and understand all their personalities. I'm going to rectify that now by reading that series before I come back to the second one in this series, The Professor's Dragon. I look forward to seeing Percy's backstory as lucifer and how the dragons and elves came here.
I loved the epilogue and where it left both Percy and Brandt in this book.

Everything about this book, the characters, the plot, the situation they found themselves in, I loved everything. Briana and Jacob were both people with bruised, almost broken hearts. I loved how Briana became the calm to Jacob's stress and anxiety. And I love how Jacob's quiet and honest nature was a way for Briana to trust herself again. They start by helping each other out, only to grow to loving each other with their whole hearts. I loved being along for the ride: it made it such a great book.
I am off to read all of this author's backlist of books.

I enjoyed this start of the series. Brann was a great character, and I lost count of the times where his blunt but easy-going exchanges with people made me giggle, especially between him and Emery's daughters, Olivia and April. He was exactly what Emery and the girls needed to get them over the hump of grief that had clouded all of them since the death of Emery's wife.
His interactions with the citizens of Ursa were the same, and I can understand why people fell in love with him and how he just stepped in to do what was right.

I loved seeing George and Kurt get their happy day, albeit with some bad guys in the mix. My favorite part, though, was getting to see Vince and Carson from Steamroller and knowing how they ended up married. Plus, the little incident with Carson throwing the football and their protectiveness of Kurt was icing on the cake.
