What the fuck was that ending! No disrespected to Charlotte Bronte because she writes beautifully, but i I really did not vibe with this book. The main character is a door mat who has almost 0 agency in most things she does and just lets things happen to her. I enjoyed the little bits of sass and spirit we got to see of her but they were few and far between. I felt the story tried to be too many things at once, with long exposition on religion and the supposed qualities of people I frankly do not give 2 shits about and who also didnt care for Lucy despite being her supposed "friends". It was way too long and after all that there was basically no point to any of it because she ends up exactly where she started (sad, alone and friendless, just better off financially lol). What a depressing outlook on life jesus. Definitely sticking to my Jane Eyre favoritism at least she had a backbone

Probably a personal taste thing, but I didn't enjoy most of these poems and I felt there was little variety of poets, with most of the pieces being by the same 4 or 5 authors

MY GOD. I can't remember the last time I was this invested in a story and its characters to the point i was SO FUCKING STRESSED more than half the time!! Natasha Pulley is a MASTER at weaving apparently disconnected threads and building an environment of such ANGST and quiet EMOTION I had to put it down at intervals because I was getting too worked up to read straight. She did time travel SO WELL and that is super hard. Jesus Christ what a ride. Cried my freaking eyes out at that ending out of sheer relief and happiness. I LOVE THEM SO MUCHHHH
