The Wind Through the Keyhole by Stephen King

The pace of this book felt significantly slower than the rest of the dark tower series. Maybe that's because I already know the ending or perhaps it's due to the nature of the book itself. It's a story within a story within a story. Maybe it's due to my love of the series (or it's author) but this book did not disappoint in any way. It lives up to the rest of the books and if read in chronological order (this would technically be book 4.5) it wouldn't slow down the story but only enhance the detail of this world.
It was a great read and I wouldn't hesitate to read it again.

Let the Right One In by John Ajvide Lindqvist

This book was so good! I had seen the Swedish movie before reading the book. I thought the movie was excellent and couldn't wait to start the book. The characters in the books are levels above how they were represented in the movie. They have depth and every character is integral to the plot. The plot feels darker and there are (in my opinion) big plot points that aren't present in the movie. Now the movie just can't compare to the world created in this book. It's an excellent read and one I couldn't put down. The writing style is unique and the suspension that's built will literally get your heart palpitating. A definite must read.

This was an enjoyable read overall. At some points the writing was a little pretentious for what is basically a young lit novel, but it doesn't distract too much from the plot. I feel the plot could have been fleshed out a little more than it was. Maybe nix the air pirates or zombies and focus more on the characters, the Blue's story in particular since it is central to the plot. There was quite a bit crammed into this book and as a result the story felt hurried and thrown together rather than well developed. The ending is disappointing in how haphazard it felt. Even after all that the book was enjoyable enough once you realize you're just not going to get any depth to the story.
