Overall a pretty fun read, but it had its ups and downs. The writing was lovely and I did very much enjoy how Gabe Cole Novoa introduced and developed all of the characters. Dami and Silas were lovely narrators and Marisol was a very welcome addition to their dynamic!

What got me a bit was the plot. It went into a direction I wasn't expecting and the twists got a little too predictable for me. There wasn't a real sense of danger surrounding what was happening to the characters due to the nature of the world-building and just knowing how these stories usually go, so... I was a lot more interesting in Juno and her deals!

Even so, this had some cute romantic moments and a lot of action and tension! I'd recommend it to anyone looking for an adventurous read with queer main characters who enjoys curses and lost treasures.

I loved this. This was a hug of a book. The writing and translation was so easy to get into and I found myself reaching for this story when I needed some comfort. The little messages throughout the book about life and taking small steps forward were so nice as well as the commentary about books and reading <3

This could have been edited down. The mystery and setting were interesting, but it took too long for things to connect and Cal to get anywhere. Lots of talking and walking around in circles. I did like the character, though, so I think I'll read the next book in the series.

I very much enjoyed parts of this, but the writing style got to be a bit too much for me after a while.

Did not finish book. Stopped at 30%.

I disliked the main character quite a bit and didn't like at all the premise of a mental health professional responsible for helping others (and being rather insistent about making sure everyone was okay) ignoring her own trauma. Also wasn't here for the juvenile team dynamics.

Another excellent addition to the series!

I found the tone here to be very different from the previous ones? The atmosphere was heavier in a way and it took me a little while to fully get into the story. I still very much loved how Nghi Vo developed the story and the little bits and pieces of the puzzle we got along the way.

Almost Brilliant's absence was very much felt, however, which added to the shift in tone. There were some pretty tense and mysterious things happening in the background which tied to that and it was entertaining when it all came crashing down.

The ending did feel a bit rushed, though. I expected a little more from it than what I got. Still loving this fantastic world <3
