Did not finish book. Stopped at 44%.
felt like his arguments were breaking down at the introduction of more complicated racial, societal, cultural tensions during the El Paso/Juarez chapter. maybe i will revisit one day, but honestly I think there are more relevant and culturally informed takes out there.

Still very relevant but i’m
ngl the slavery was such. a. fucking. bummer. it just kind of killed all hope i had for the future in the world Butler built over the past two novels. And like… that’s probably the point, but the ending was just not as satisfying. like why were Olamina’s brothers so fuckin evil. made me sad in an important way i guess :(

i definitely liked Denis Villanueve’s portrayal of this story much better. The end of the book felt inconclusive (probably the point) and unsatisfying. Like damn Frank Hubert, I listened to 21+ hours of your story and you couldn’t wrap it up any better?! a lil rude.

I feel like it is very rare for me to enjoy the movie more than the book version of a narrative but Dune is the exception fs! I would have never made it through without the audiobook.
