Stand-alone prose is already not my forte (thought this book would have been more on the poetry side or else I wouldn’t have picked it up), but this, between the author’s arrogance, hypocritical beliefs, toxic-negativity-laden attitude, and the running theme of unchecked internalized misogyny, was truly a disappointing and agonizing read.

While Jen’s novels are getting better in recent years (though nothing will top If You Were Here and The Gatekeepers—sidenote I SO wish she’d return to YA, TG was FANTASTIC and has a permanent spot on my shelf of favorite books) I just have to admit to myself that I’m never gonna read this or other fiction novels she released around this time. It’s just missing that Jen touch.
