Talk about gruesome! I think this is the second or third book I’ve had to read in between my fingers because I was scared of what torture was about to occur.

This definitely was not as good as I thought it would be. The ratings kind of threw me until I realized it was written by the author’s friends. Good for him, but not so good for me. I just don’t think I was the right demographic for this. And the story just sort of fell flat for me and got sort of monotonous.
I wanted to DNF but I decided to push through hoping I would like it more.

Where do I start? I can very well see the parallels in the book compared to today. What really stood out to me was all the violence that these characters faced. It was hard to get through but the perseverance and strength that Lauren showed was undeniable. I really admired that character, can’t say the same about her brother and daughter though.

Good anthology of stories set in one place. I liked some of them a lot and others I could’ve done without.

I’m gonna have to stop reading this author’s books. This was the equivalent of a 90s Lifetime movie, just not as good. I will say the b-plot was more interesting, but it wasn’t given enough to breathe.
I found the characters one dimensional and almost childlike which was weird given the subject material.

I hated this. I tried to like it and stuck it out instead of DNFing but it didn’t get better to me. It was overrun with metaphors that made it hard for me to understand. If I ever read “owl-baby” again it would be too soon.

Did not finish book. Stopped at 47%.
I don’t know if I’m just burnt out on murdering heroines but I just couldn’t finish it. The characters were kind of boring and I couldn’t follow why the main character’s thought process.

I liked it but didn’t love it. It read like a YA novel which isn’t bad but not what I was expecting. I think because the main character was so young it was unavoidable.
