I received an ARC from the author, and though my reviews are honest and true, I wish the author the best.
This book was really good, at first. The magic system was really interesting. I got up to about maybe 75%, and that's where i felt the book kinda fell off. The remaining 25% was hard to get through. I couldn't stand the FMC and honestly I was kinda over being in her thoughts. I also felt indifferent about the ending. I felt the pinnacle of the book was lackluster.
The whole build up of Gayl lying, as if he wasn't lying and gaslighting from the start was for me annoying. And sadly I understood why she felt the way she felt, she wanted the feel of knowing she had family despite her parents dying, so she was desperate to get anything she could get out of the relationship with Gayl. But honey, that's a no no especially when there's sooo many people telling you the shit he's done. So that part really irked me when she was sooooo shell shocked that he lied. LIKE BRUH THE LINES ARE THERE. It was always there!
Also the last trial and she wasn't prepared with her herbs? Like honey, you ALWAYS gotta be prepared.

Wow I fucking loved this book. Excuse my language (lol). This book was soo good. The banter was great, the spice was hmm just chef's kiss
Josh is my book boyfriend, he was such a psycute (psycho cute) and a golden retriever. I am so jealous of Fred because I want Josh to be my daddy (simmer down J.A.Y lol)

Soo I also didn't think this book would take a pretty dark turn, but I loved the "redemption" for both Chloe and Santiago. This book was very bittersweet, and I am kinda sad now that I finished this series. Our of all of them, my favorite couple is Noah and Maya. Their story for me had a lot of banter and angst. And the spice? The spice was soooooooooo much better, especially the sexual tension. The other books including this one mainly focused on the triggers and the problems.
I didn't like how it mainly focused on Santi's issue for majority of the book. I was hoping we get more info on Chloe's trying to find and talk to her dad. Chloe's issues were too short and felt rushed. I was also hoping her mom would be more of an issue than her dad.
I loved the extended epilogue to wrap everyone up. They are older and so are the kids too. It warms my heart

The story build up was really good and it kept me on my toes. I hated the miscommunications and how the timing was never "right" It's not my favorite RY book. I do appreciate the trauma and PTSD in it. It felt real and personable. When I kept reading the book, I kept thinking of a mutual friend I knew and what happened to their love story (spoilers, that mutual friend story wasn't a HEA)
