I thought the plot was good in that it kept me guessing and I liked the characters. Didn’t love the people or want them as friends of my own, but I got a good sense of what kind of people they would be and I like that in a book.

I really liked the book. I actually checked it out after my husband made me watch the movie.

I like how it is placed in a dystopian society and the hopes and fears make sense for the characters.

I did get tired of how small and thin our heroine was because I hate when people continue to focus on small physical form as writers. Either it’s such a big thing the heroine overcame OR it’s some sort of big, huge thing they panic about.

Maybe mention it once (we can remember these things) and then we will be good the entire book.

Please and thank you from a historically short/small person.

I loved the subject matter and the storyline, it just moved kind of slow for me. I hate that the witches they murdered really were just women.

Well…. I wanted to love it. And I think I would have if certain areas and storylines had more time spent on them. I had questions and some things seemed like others might have inferred the answers but I did not and it left me confused and lost for quite a bit of the story.

I loved the idea of everything falling apart to come together, I just struggled to fill in too many pieces. 😔

What a darling children’s story. I will be passing this off to my ten year old. Spoiler, but duh: of course the children lived happily ever after, just as these little sweethearts deserve.

I figured this out right away just because so many characters were built up and depth was created. All but the bad person.

I was kind of bummed at how the mental health issues were glossed over, but then again I don’t know how to cover them with *just* the right finesse either.

Storyline was good though.

I didn’t really get hooked but wanted to finish it and not gain another DNF.

Well….. I had to read a few reviews (to have explained to me like I was a five year old) where in transition this book came from.

It wasn’t obvious to me that our heroine was Mary’s child. Or that this was in the future. Or just like any of it.

Once I got that, I was determined to hold onto this slow moving book as I’d heard it picks up on the second half. And it did.

Still 3.5 stars

Im digging the end of the world feel we have here, I’m just really struggling with how quickly our gal child fell in love with her dude guy. It’s inauthentic because we didn’t get any backstory. Also struggling a bit with how we are lead to believe she’s a grown-up but her age-associated everything makes her very juvenile and I almost wish we just had a story about a 13 year old to make it all make sense.

It was a good book to reflect on my own personal biases and how they may look to others. Also a kind and gentle reminder on how to bring others along with you if they do not understand, but are willing to grow.

The friendship and it’s growth is something I would love to see more of in my own relationships. That part was beautiful even if painful and difficult to watch play out.
