Very cute but i was waiting for it to be better. Weird that the basis of fueling their hatred just disappeared bc they never actually hated each other??? Weird that we made such a big deal of it at our grown age. Also weird how one has legitimate childhood trauma and the other has just STEM parents that she cant have a backbone against.
I did think the characters were cute together i just wish if you market it as enemies to lovers that the tension and hijinks would stay up!

Just kind of mid. Its very much set up to be a series with barely anything happening for the entire book. The stakes are said to be high, queen hunting them down/dragons in the sky, etc but somehow it has the same tension and worry as when they are trying to secure tea shipments. Maybe that was just how i read it but I didnt feel very engaged. Im curious to read the other books and see if it picks up but for now it was just a light read im not sure invested in

I have never spent 2 years reading a book. I didnt dnf bc i was hoping all hopes it would redeem itself but afte 456 pages of hearing the same questions asked, hearing the same metaphors and comparisons, waiting for a SINGLE thing to happen.. nothing did. It couldnt even end? It could have ended with them walking out of the labyrinth (which they defeated with no challenges and tons of cut aways) and learning how to be the Seasons but no!!!! We have to go to WISCONSIN WHERE THE TWIN SISTER IS SUDDENLY REVIVED AND TRYING TO KILL THEM??!! mind you they went to WI thinking it would be the last place shed go. But it also kills me that this girl is set up to be a powerful assassin but has so far been incapucated by a rock, a kick to the knee and managed to let her heart sick sister escape by running and then was stupidly unaware that the mmc was trying to snap her neck. I loved middlegame with my whole heart but now i feel like i must have been so stupid to love it

Im sadly disappointed after the first book. I felt like nothing really developed in here and if anything went back and forth on all the things that happened in the first book. I didnt find myself really believin the two FMCs were in love anymore and i was just supposed to go with it.

When I started, I thought this was going to be a 5 star for me. I love a good religious deconstruction and analysis on the human need for faith in unstable society. However, I was really only upset about the random (felt like to me) romance of Elo and Kissen. Call me a lesbian but if for the entire first half of the book we only see kissen liking women and now just bc they are alone in the woods and are scared start to crave something physical. Also? Really thought Elo was a gay man. But get it I guess. Just like don't have sex right after he makes a fucking dumb decision that endangers everyone and not while a child is within ear shot and waiting on tbe adults to keep her safe but they are too busy trying to figure out how to have hetero sex.

I don't really have bad or good things to say. Just simply was not impressed. Why did every character get introduced as "white, bisexuality women" or "white cis straight men" when the only people that apparently exist here are of that presentation. Got boring to read. If this was a movie I could have it on in the background and enjoy or possibly cry to when I'm pmsing but not wholly amazing on its own.

I was never a fan of Shakespeare. I can never figure out what he's trying to say but this retelling made me mourn who I could have been if I had paid more attention in freshman English. That being said I didn't always understand the necessity of the plot but I was happy to be along for the ride
