I often come back to this book and the concepts Friedan introduces in it. It shows that it was written in the 60s in many ways, but I believe that the ideas discussed within the book hold true to the modern day and are still relevant. Anyone interested in feminism and it's history should read this book.
Flaws of characters a main focus? It's complicated
3.0
Kevin Kwan needs to learn when to stop introducing new characters and just focus on the characters he has already written a story about. The cast kept growing, to the story's detriment.
Many of the characters were not necessary, and by the time the story started to wrap up there were too many plotlines going on to really have a neat ending. Overall, I think this book needed fewer random plot twists thrown in at the end and more time spent making the characters compelling. Also the sheer amount of wealth these people have got nauseating after a while.
Overall, if you like dark academia and mystery, you'll probably enjoy this book. I didn't like it very much, I found the characters annoying and the plot to be somewhat predicatable and very slow.
I really enjoyed this book! It really scratched the itch I had for a fun, lighthearted romance. I found both the main characters compelling, if a little dumb at times. Overall a good choice for a beach read.
