This is easily the darkest thriller I have ever read, not only because of the content but because so much of it feels so close to reality. It’s like a thriller version of the handmaids tale. I will not forget this book but read the TW!

Just wow…. Probably the darkest most twisted books I’ve ever read/ listened to. It was disgusting and disturbing but I couldn’t stop listening! It was also refreshing in a way… it’s rare to find a female author who isn’t disgustingly descriptive. I would definitely recommend this one.

3.5 rounded up. Fair warning, this book has just about every trigger under the sun. I did enjoy the way the story was told. Shey told her past through a podcast interview, while the current story unfolds in real time. I did not like Shey as a person, but I dont think you're meant to. She's extremely traumatized by her past, and it is shown by her actions. I tried figuring out the twists, but they still caught be off guard.

DNF at 60% or so. You know, misogynistic shit is still misogynistic shit even if the writer is a woman. It was horrifying to read about women submitting to the whims of men, being physically punished for not being submissive enough. Being taught that they are weak and whimsical and that feminism is misguided. Spare me!

Is this a new trend or am I imagining things? It seems that crime novels that kill and subjugate women in the most awful ways are more common than ever. I like a good whodunnit, but I am not into sadism.
