This was a great anthology, lots of variety in the choices. It felt very refreshing to read contemporary writing, as a young adult it can sometimes feel difficult to break into the current issues and themes.

A wonderful collection of diverse stories, poetry, and other written media from various authors. Highly recommended.

Really nice collection, especially the non-fiction about Syria.

The opening short story, 'On the study of physics in preschool classrooms: pedagogy and lesson planning' by Matthew Schultz was one of the most enjoyable ones in the anthology and shared a lot of atmosphere with the first episode of 'Welcome to Night Vale' also in this volume. I hardly liked the others.

Being a collection of various styles made it tough for me to enjoy this completely. I suppose each of the "Best American" collections has some pieces that I skip, don't finish, or read through and wonder why I did. This one had a few more of those than usual. I did not enjoy most of the chapbook works. I make no claim to being a fan of poetry, and the chapbook entries didn't make me any more of one.

In any case, I'm glad these writers, and the student reviewers, are doing what they enjoy and wish them success.

I always love this collection, so it's four stars relative to the other versions.

As with any collection, this book has a lot I liked and a lot I didn't like. I thought overall there is some great talent in this book and I really enjoyed many of the pieces throughout. I will say that the subject matter selected for this book seemed pretty dark, which I was not expecting. Usually there is more of a balance, unless of course the collection is meant to showcase a particular subject. I just found myself needing to put the book down a few times to take a break from the heavier topics.

If I could rate this over five stars, I would. I loved this. The excerpt from "I Feel YES" was a personal favorite.

As with all anthologies, loved some, liked some, didn't get others. I also think at this point I just need to accept I don't understand most poetry, and not feel bad about it.
