Remarkably forgettable. Extremely boring.

A gentle, quiet, and hopeful story, in a peaceful setting, A Town Called Solace is a beautiful way to think about grief, relationships, and purpose. In a small town in northern Canada, we get three different perspectives; a young girl whose sister has gone missing, her elderly neighbour who has had to go to hospital, and the man who has moved in after his marriage broke up. Shades of To Kill a Mockingbird, even though this is set in the 1970s, and Elizabeth Strout, too, I really enjoyed it.

This book ends a bit abruptly, but it’s a nice story. Set in my province as well.

Small town Canadian life, but with such big and interesting personalities. There’s a very serious and underlying threat of disaster in the background the entire time, yet you are still extremely invested in the three main characters.

I loved this book. It was heart wrenching and sad but satisfying. There is a lot of pain that is unresolved for the characters the older woman who is dying and rendering her life. And the little girl who was watching her cat and the lost man who came to town who had been cared for by the old lady when he was little. It all comes together and it is satisfying in the end.
