Once again, during an anxiety spiral, I prescribed myself a hefty dose of Blume salve. Reading about a young, anxious girl and her problems always pulls me out of my own head.
Thanks for the help Judes!

This was a re-read for me and although the time between reads was over thirty years, the content and characters were nostalgic. I certainly enjoyed reading it again, especially with my 11yo, but found this plot to be problematic and inconsistent at times, unlike Judy Blume's many titles.

Divorce, friendship, family. Originally published in 1972, this one has honestly aged well.
It even has a note from Judy at the beginning explaining where she was in her life when she wrote it and how certain things have changed since then when is a lovely addition.

The book's plot was all over the place. It's good for kids to talk about divorce, but this book left so many unanswered questions.

I enjoyed this one. It's told from the perspective of Karen, an 11 year old middle child whose parents are going through a divorce. That's not something I ever experienced growing up but it was still well done and something I found myself being able to relate to, albeit impartially.

Karen is struggling to come to terms about her parents divorcing. Karen's siblings are doing no better. Each go through classic symptoms of parents splitting and could help kids cope with major changes in life.

Sympathetic and realistic treatment of divorce and children's wishful thinking and gradual acceptance.
