4.5, actually, rounded off to 5 stars. Would've reviewed this earlier, but I've been on study mode for the past 2 weeks and I wanted to re-read it before I reviewed it. I'll probably review this again later when I am free to add more stuff.
The second book is totally different from the first. I thought the first book had a sort of nice fairy-tale feel. Rose is poor, Declan is handsome and rich. But Rose can flash and kick ass and have Declan out of her doorstep. xD
William didn't stand out much to me in the first book, but in Bayou Moon, you get to understand him much more and know all about him as well as get introduced to Cerise Mar and her family as well as a new twisted villain.
Cerise, just like Rose, is selfless and always thinks of the good of her her family. Her parents are kidnapped and she has to remain strong and be in charge of her family.
Ilona Andrews knows how to give her characters heart. Her dialogue is snappy and never bores. The world is rich and unique, which is something that always amazes me. The battles and suspenseful and bloody and well-written.
There is mystery, even almost towards the end which I really love. A world full of monsters and magic, you will be swept off in a fun and intriguing world.

Good stuff.
Sort of a dry beginning but quickly picks up.
Can't wait to read more in this series.

The Mire is a dark and dangerous place, but it is home to Cerise Mar and her family. The Mars are intensely loyal to one another and when her parents go missing, Cerise will do anything to find them. Even if that means teaming up with a mysterious outsider like William. They have a common enemy, a very vicious and violent one--the stuff of nightmares. Both Cerise and William are fiercely independent and do not trust others easily. They dance around each other, testing one another, each proving that they can not only hold their own in a fight, but also in matching wits and finally accepting their growing attraction to one another. I felt the chemistry between Cerise and William more than I did Rose and Declan in the first novel. Perhaps that had to do with their close proximity to each other in an unrelentingly tense situation. Bayou Moon has a more gritty feel than the first book in the series, On the Edge. There were a couple of scenes that made me feel uncomfortable, the gore a bit much, but I was invested in the intrigue and romance of the novel. The suspense was high throughout, up until near the end. Renée Raudman narrates the audiobook and does an amazing job capturing the voices of the many characters and providing a real sense of place in her reading of the the novel.

Super enjoyable, but not as thrilling as some of the other series. The narrator has one voice for high emotion whether that's stress, panic, or lust. It all sounds the same and makes the sex scenes a bit strange. The language in the sex scenes is not my jam either.
I love the general idea and execution. It just didn't hit that sweet spot for me.
Definitely continuing the series.

William is probably my favourite hero; I love his inability to understand flirtation and genuine social ineptitude. A bit like me?
Cerise is ok, fairly badass. Her family is pretty cool. I won't pretend I was reading it for the plot.
