I'm always intimated by Puliters. This was a surprisingly easy read with deceptive depth. A real joy to read.

Beautiful. I read some reviews that said it lacked plot or character development - if you're looking for a beginning, middle and end type of story then I suppose this doesn't fit. I loved that it the events of the story mostly served to offer the opportunity to get to know Arthur Less via his memories and foibles. The imagery was vivid and drenched, and the writing was clever and tight. It's not a quick read, more of one to really cuddle into.

This is perhaps the best book to read when you are just shy of your 50th birthday and your life is a bit of a mess. It is extraordinarily deft, full of dry wit and self-deprecating humor. It is light and warm and unexpectedly profound and wise. I felt a deep sympathy for Arthur Less, and was so invested in the outcome that I actually cried at the end of this funny, funny book. It has not quite spoiled me for other reading, but I will remember how wonderful it was for a very long time.

I thought this was just going to be a fun little read but then it made me happy sad.

Beautifully written story and funny in parts, as we follow the writer 50-year old Arthur Less on his travels across the globe to escape having to attend his ex-lover's wedding. I feel like I should have liked this more than I did, but it all felt a bit too contrived and neatly tied up for me.

I liked the writing and the development of many of the characters. Arthur Less's naivety was a little hard to believe at times, but I think the story had a lot of feeling, and I do like, what I feel, was the purely joyful ending.
