Thank you to NetGalley and IDW Publishing for providing me with an e-arc of this book in exchange for an honest review
This is an amazing graphic novel anthology. It is created by women to tell of uniquely female experiences. I think it says a lot that, while this book was first made in Spain, not a single story was truly unrelatable to this American reader. The stories tell of love, struggles, and triumph. They talk about mental illnesses, toxic standards, and gender imbalances.
I loved all of the different styles of writing and art and the fact that each story was brief but thoughtful.

July 2023. Anthology of graphic novel/illustrated short stories by women in Spain about experiences relating to being a woman (e.g., eating disorders, inequality, relationships with parents, etc.)
I picked this up when perusing the graphic novel and manga section of my local library and figured I’d check it out. It was pretty good overall but I imagine it would resonate more with some readers in Spain about specific situations and issues that might have gone over my head.
Don’t particularly recommend, but don’t discourage reading either. I’d be curious to see more by a couple of the artists.

While I do agree that some of the stories themselves felt a bit one dimensional, I still think this is such a great project that shows the wonderful variety of spanish female comics artists, and is well worth the read

I'm disappointed that such a comics collection with such an empowering message came out as three stars, but I just didn't connect with most of these short narratives. In fact, I found myself lost in some places because some of the stories seemed disjointed in their plot progression. Even after rereading a few times, I was lost. Sometimes, it felt like I wasn't getting enough words. Other times, I felt like I wasn't being privileged to the story the visuals and words were supposed to be telling together. The extra boost comes from the empowering feminist theme I know and can feel throughout the collection.

my first read of 2025, chosen to remind myself that we will perservere and we will survive the next four years, no matter how terrifying they will be.
