“There’s no taming a fae like the Silent Death …”

Emelin has escaped the Crimson Court and saved Creon from the Mother’s chains. But her newfound allies bring dangers of their own. Thrown into a world of old feuds and thorny grudges, she needs all her ingenuity to keep the Silent Death safe from his friends-turned-enemies.

And the political games of the Alliance are the easy part …

I couldn’t wait to read this one after devouring Court of Blood and Bindings. I love the banter between Emelin and Creon. I loved Emelin’s character development and we see her really start to step into her role as a badass FMC. I also love a good found family trope and this one didn’t disappoint. Can’t wait to devour the next one!

Read this if you like:

*strong FMC
*touch her and die
*morally grey MMC
*found family
*fun banter

I really love their romance and I also greatly appreciate how flawed they both are. Creon isn’t heroic just because he’s the book’s love interest, he’s very imperfect and sometimes even cowardly and I appreciate that we get to see the process of him being confronted with his worst parts and having to find a way to work through them all unless he wants to lose Emelin for good.
In the same way, I appreciate how raw and relatable Emelin’s worries and struggles concerning Creon’s mental health are. That helplessness, but also the unconditional care and affection, and the struggle to reconcile them both for someone you love. I cried a lot. Laughed a lot. Aaw’ed a lot, too.

One of my critiques for the 1st book was the lack of established side character relationships and I was really happy to see that remedied in this book. Emelin’s friendships with the others evolves a lot and there are so many adorable scenes between her and her new friends and we get to learn about them and their backstories. It was really cute.

I do have to say, the spicy scenes might not be everyone’s cup of tea. Lisette Marshall uses certain terminology that might give some people the ick. Honestly, it made me cringe here and there. If you’re sensitive to terms such as “seed”, or “folds” or “lips”, uh… well, I got bad news for you, lmao. Especially that first one. Jeez, she really likes painting a picture with that.

First half was pretty mid. Emelin has found her way to an Underground movement with Creon. But no one trusts her and definitely not Creon.
most of the first half is honestly just them hiding their relationship. Creon being a sulk in a corner and Emelin sulking about Creon.
about 60% it got moving again and more twists and turns arose which were interesting developments. I am looking forward to continuing this series.

I didn’t like this one as much as the first one. Probably more 3.5 stars but I rounded up because I liked the ending. There was a lot of melodrama in the beginning with Creon being the absolute worst, moodiest little emo boy ever. I stuck it out because I care and luckily he gets back to himself eventually. Emelin is a complicated one because while I appreciate her qualities I also sometimes want to slap her for being selfish. This book was a little more drawn out and boring in the middle. I’m hesitating about the 3rd book because I don’t want to dislike the characters and I’ve heard they kinda go downhill and repeat some of their issues. We will see.

It was alright

I loved the first book of this series. It drew me in, kept me engaged, and I stayed up late reading it.

I would say this book did not have the same effect on me. I didn't feel as engaged or hungry for the plot. The dialogue and relationships didn't have enough depth to hook me.

I'm still going to finish the series since I've invested enough time in the story to want to see how it plays out. I just wish Lord of Gold and Glory had more action. It didn't feel like very much happened. And the end didn't have enough of an impact to keep me wanting more.

I am hoping the third book blows this one out of the water. The first one gave me high hopes for this series.

BOOK II | Fae Isles

LoGaG commences on a dramatic note, addressing the tumultuous occurrences at the conclusion of Book I and finds its key cast of characters in a new realm brimming with potential new threats. Left to contend with the heartbreaking state of her new reality, Emelin is forced to carry on with a slim set of allies and a deeply strained romantic connection that may never find its way back to the light. In an inspiring arc, Em finds an ember of courage deep within herself, gripping it tightly as she extends her hands to terrifying new associates and builds bonds which slowly color her world in a way she's never experienced.

As the tale deepens to more emotionally-charged spaces, the case of love between our dynamic leads is one that boldly shined upon the page. In this installment, Marshall exceptionally explores the intricate complexities of Em and Creon's respective personalities and emotional profiles, slowly revealing their innermost thoughts of self in the most heartbreaking manner. As devastatingly painful and unspeakable truths of their tangled histories are revealed, initial assumptions once placed upon these essential characters quickly slip away and ultimately casts them in new appealing lights.

THE LOVE // A unique romantic bond that caught attention from their startling meet cute, Em & Creon have all the makings of an epic pairing with a sharp edge. Featuring elements of emotional darkness, an intensely witty brand of communication, and a fiery love that scorches the pages on which it thrives, this couple is one I count as a favorite in the romantasy space. ♥️
