I started this book last year thinking I would get a jumpstart on what’s ahead for me and my future options, but discovered very abruptly that hormone therapy will not be possible for me. The rest of the book ended up being almost useless after that. I was disappointed that such an otherwise thorough book is so lacking on non-hormonal therapy (including the lovely segment where she “debunks” supplements, some because they haven’t been studied enough, some because studies show no statistical improvement, and some because “your supplements are probably adulterated so therefore supplements as a whole are useless”. Gee, thanks. That’s super scientific. So long as doctors don’t bother treating patients properly, I’ll keep self-dosing as I please).

This took me a while to get through because it’s not really the type of book you read straight through. At least I don’t. It’s an excellent resource for menopause and you can just read whichever sections most interest you. The takeaway: menopause affects all women differently. It’s important to talk about menopause and to monitor your own symptoms. I’m in a facebook menopause group which is useful.

I learned a lot about something I thought I was pretty conversant on. I may be going back to my doctor to discuss options.
I got this as an audiobook. I think it would be better for me as a traditional. book as there are passages I wanted to mark.

Excellent resource - should be required reading for all women!

More like a 3.5. Excellent in many ways and I know I will use it as a resource going forward, but her pathological dismissal and derision of anything that isn't peer reviewed is problematic. I appreciate her encouragement of some level of caution and critical thinking, but as someone who has turned to naturopathic support for my health, successfully, I was disappointed that she ignored information that would have been useful to readers.

A great book on the basics of menopause with a scientific and medical focus. I appreciate the focus on what's actually known rather than the scare tactics I have seen elsewhere.

This is an excellent, clear, thorough and non-judgmental resource for those experiencing any stage of menopause - or even those looking at it in the future or the rear view mirror.
