I really enjoyed this nostalgic re-read on audio (the 2016 version read by Isobelle Carmody), I feel like Obernewtyn still holds up and I see echoes of this type of story in YA and Fantasy today.
Moderate: Animal death, Death, Torture, Violence, and Death of parent

Neat combination of fantasy and nuclear apocalypse, but for a younger audience. Most of the side characters felt pretty flat, but there are 6 more books to hopefully fix that. The world that Carmody built is the biggest draw for the series, and I'm definitely interested in continuing, but good lord, the numbering on the North American Editions looks atrocious and confusing to me.
Moderate: Animal death, Child abuse, Child death, Confinement, and Torture
Minor: War

I was surprised by this book. I didn't think I would enjoy it as much as I did. The story has some interesting characters, and really fascinating lore that is slowly uncovered as you read through.
I was hesitant to pick up this book, and it was one that has never been high on my radar. My hesitance was around the fact that the first book was published about 35 years ago, and formula's for books and writing styles change overtime. I wasn't sure if I would enjoy it as much. I'm happy that I did end up enjoying it. This world has so much lore that I want to dive down deeper into. The magic system is also not something I have often seen in YA fantasy so it was a nice refresher.
I'm very much interested to see where this series goes, especially as there is a 28 year gap between the first book and the last in the series. It will be interesting to see if the writing style or pacing changes over the series because of time it spans.
