plot: Tempe finds bones buried under a pizza shop, which detective Claudel deems old and not worth his time. Tempe finds startling similarities and is working to make it an active case. Ryan is being awkward and standoffish, almost like he has a secret. Tempe's hunch was right and she discovers something very heinous.
opinion: This book angered me and then it pissed me off. With the condescendingness of Claudel then the abuse, rape, Stockholm syndrome, and murder from the serial killer. This made me hate men. Big criminal minds vibe.

I'm really getting into this series. This might be one of my favorites so far. They're starting to feel like old friends now, which is always nice.

Another good solid Temperance Brennan story.

The one thing I'm enjoying as I make my way through all of these stories, is the character relationships. And the fact that none of these are simple and easy.

I like the fact that our FMC is flawed and has many things she struggles with, but also how her brain works. Brilliant but kind of a mess too.

I'm looking forward to the next book.

Reichs has become more about 'comfort food' reading than what I expected. When I'm in a slump or need a break from heavy reading, I turn to Dr. Brennan. In this installment: the tension between Ryan and Tempe seemed a little forced - and there were moments I was blurry on plot points. Overall, however, it was another quick/escape read.

This was the last of the Kathy Reichs books that I've read. I loved them up until this one, this one just felt like she was bored. Maybe it's just me.

One of the better Tempe Brennan novels. Reichs doesn't veer at all from her usual formula -- and why should she? It sells. However, she does manage to create a fast-paced, suspenseful story while coloring inside these well-established lines.

The usual "friend/family member/associate"-in-peril aspect has more substance this time. Her friend Anne seems like a character rather than a plot device.

Sadly, Boyd the dog does not make an appearance.
