Abridged Audiobook
Almost dropped it at the beginning but one of my favorite YouTuber Anda Kent recommended the book, so I pushed through. Glad I did! It wasn't as gory as American Psycho or Gone to See The River Man, but still shocking and graphic enough, so tread with caution. The abridged version was nice, it was short, gory and creepy. A fun read. If you're into extreme horror I think it's best dive in unprepared (The narrator caught a cold around 80% through, and recovered around 90% mark. Just a heads up!)

With all that happened in the book I find it odd that the few mentions of shit are what people have been mentioning as too much. That's your line?

Four self absorbed, idiotic white people go to try and find their German friends brother and encounter a
Shambling Mound
. They don't have a lick of self preservation among them.
I was not sad at their deaths. I was sad for Mathias, but at least his was quick.

As others have said, there are no ruins.

You can tell the author is a man. The women are useless and even in the horrific situation they find themselves in, there is excessive lingering on their bodies.
Also one of the women gets her BF off to...make herself feel better?

Would have been better as a movie, and it wouldn't be a good movie.

ok the “monster” or whatever you want to call it was scarier than I was anticipating at first. This is a fun, nasty, gross, creepy book and I couldn’t wait to see the characters (for the most part anyway) die :)

It loses half a star because of the description of Stacy giving Eric a handjob in the tent

I wanted to like this book way more than I actually did, the premise is good but the execution is shockingly bad. I didn’t care about ANYONE, so I had no stakes in how the book went. All the characters are paper thin and two dimensional, and I just don’t find plants scary.

Maybe I would, but this book doesn’t sell it at all. Also, there’s NO RUINS. That just makes me annoyed, they’re mentioned but never actually a plot point in the book at all.

I did cringe (positively) at some of the stuff that happened, but even the body horror wasn’t that good. It wasn’t convincing or compelling enough for me to be grossed out- I can’t feel/enjoy the main attraction of this book. I would rate it lower but I enjoyed parts of it.
