Kirjassa on hauska idea, että kahdesta näkökulmahenkilösta toisen tarina kerrotaan kuvin (vieläpä hyvin elokuvamaisesti) ja toisen tekstinä. Näin ollen yli 600 sivuisen kirjan lukee nopeasti, vaikka kirjasta onkin kuvituksen takia tullut mahdottoman painava (RIP ranteet). Hahmot jäävät harmillisen pintapolisiksi, vaikka näille onkin kirjoitettu isoja teemoja (vanhempien ero, äidin kuolema, isättömyys, kuurous).

Though I was interested in the characters and intrigued by the way Selznick delivered his plot, both through writing and illustrating the intersecting story lines, I did not feel enchanted, in short, I was not Wonderstruck.

Perhaps this is me setting expectations, and then unjustly punishing the book for being too stodgy, but I feel I am usually fair and well rounded about how I feel, met expectations, or no, and this book just didn't quite hit that place inside me.

I really enjoyed this book. It was sad but the story was great. Looking forward to reading to my kids.

Despite the way this book dragged a bit, the center arch of the story was beautiful.

Although there were too many coincidences, I thought this book was amazing. I want to read it again and look for the allusions to Konigsburg that Selznick mentions in his author's notes.

I read this in a day and so enjoyed it. I feel as though I should have taken more time with it, to really study the ridiculously beautiful, detailed illustrations.

Brian Selznick does it again! A touching story, beautifully told in a combination of words and stunning artwork. I’m always impressed by his ability to tell such emotive and detailed stories with just pictures.
