I liked this book. It wasn't amazing. First half or so was getting to know the characters and their background. I thought that was a little slow, then more started happening and it got more interesting. I enjoyed the ending.

Feb 2014 - super disappointing. Everything is wrapped up into a happy package at the end? Seemed like the author didn't bother getting deep with the characters. They were very superficial with multiple rabbit trails throughout the story that didn't add anything to the plot line. not impressed.

2022 Pop Sugar Reading Challenge-a book with mirror on the title or a reflected image on the cover.

First, beware. from the first chapter, you will think this is a murder mystery. it is not. But, what it is the story of how a family falls apart and manages to put itself somewhat back together.

The only thing I didn't like was how it started out at the end, so I knew what was going to happen. While reading I could almost imagine a somewhat happy ending, but for the body discovered at the beginning of the book.

Like The Horse Whisperer , the novel beings with an accident in the snow and involves horses, and it showcases the great American natural landscape. But that is where the similarity to The Horse Whisperer end.
It addresses marriage and family issues, as well as the destruction of nature for profit and the helplessness of those who suffer from it. And it also addresses issues of toxic and manipulative relationships, and how people fall into them.It is a brautiofully crafted novel, and I can't recommend it enough.

Evans' novels, in my opinion, all have a haunting air about them; the subject matter intertwines with the setting for a compelling read. His description are quite vivid making it easy to get lost in his world. While The Divide delivers on these accounts, I don't think it is his best work. I'll blame it on the slightly far-fetched premise. If you like Evans, you'll still enjoy this read. If you are new to him, I wouldn't start with The Divide.

Ik hou wel van de natuurbeschrijvingen van Evans, maar dit verhaal is me net iets teveel bij het haar getrokken. En toch blijf je lezen. Hij weet zijn lezers te boeien.
The loop en The smoke jumper vond ik net iets beter.

Bookstore find. Kinda stinks, in a formulaic way. Extremely expected family breakdown, Santa Fe hippies, eco-terrorists with shallow motivations, etc.
