I was sooooooo excited to get my hands on this book, and it did not disappoint!!
Zetian continued to live up a morally gray character I can enjoy. I also really enjoyed the nuance the author gave what an active economic revolution could be in a fantasy setting.
15/10 recommend to anyone who enjoys fantasy/sci-fi and an extremely morally gray cast!

Much like the first book Iron Widow, this book was incredibly fast paced. Despite that and the YA style there still managed to be some gorgeous prose and turns of phrase scattered throughout. More than that this book did some incredible things with characters, character dynamics, plot, politics, and premise. I have never been asked to empathize with The Mob in this way before, and I really appreciated it. The book walked a fine line between atrocities, and I'd say it walked it with considerable grace and style. Also shoutout to the ending being an incredible premise and set piece, and ending a trope I find distasteful with a character decision I found delightful. The only thing holding it back from a full 5/5 rating is the aforementioned breakneck pace (which works to its benefit sometimes, its just not my preferred style) and a couple of action scenes in the middle that, while important for the plot, still felt like a drag.

This book was much slower than Iron Widow, not to say that I didn’t enjoy it, it felt like a very natural sequence of events coming after the events ending the last book.
