I realised I’d never read anything Polish, and have several Polish close friends. So I asked them who was their Dickens, and what was their key classics I might begin with. One suggested Doll by Prus (it sits on my bookshelf ready) the other suggested this much shorter story - which I have just begun.

Absolutely horrific. A very short read, ~50 pages. 8 accounts of Nazi war crimes that all happen in Poland. I felt nauseous reading half of it & had teary eyes for 80% of it.

This book is chopped into experiences from multiple different people. Each person talks in detail of the cruelty they experienced and witnessed. This is dark material told in a very heavy way.
I don't feel right giving this a star rating, but I have. This isn't a matter of enjoyment but I do feel it is important read this book. This is best covered in an educational setting with much discussion.
I do not feel this is as effective as other books about this specific event, due to it just being a few snippets from several people rather than a sustained recounting from one person.

(lektura szkolna) Krótkie, ale bardzo wstrząsające i zapadające w pamięć opowiadania. Chyba moja ulubiona lektura z literatury wojennej (jeśli można w ogóle użyć słowa ulubiona przy tak przerażających historiach).
