I'd read another book by the author (campus mystery 'The Swallows') and I liked the author's writing style.
'The Passenger' is one of those books where it's best to check the brain at the door and enjoy the ride. It begins with quite the setup-the protagonist, at this time known as Tanya Dubois, finds her husband dead and rather than calling the police, she takes off, changes her appearance, withdraws as much as money as possible, gets new credentials from a mysterious person, and winds relocates. WTH? Of course I had to finish. Tanya becomes Amelia (this will not be the last name change), meets another woman with a questionable background, and the twists keep coming. Overall I enjoyed this one and wanted to know more about the mystery woman narrating her adventures in her own self-made sort of witness protection plan. I had a few quibbles at the end, but this one still enjoyable.

This story of a woman on the run was quite enjoyable. There were some reveals but not really any big twists, although the story did keep my attention very well without them. One thing towards the end bothered me that was never explained. Why did so many Nora's turn themselves in? It doesn't make any sense. Why didn't she question it? That part was annoying but overall, I liked the book quite a bit.

This is not my usual genre of book but it is a WILD ride and I could not put it down. It’s a very fun process of piecing things together as the story goes and the ending is pretty satisfying. Definitely recommended.

I’ve been loving Lisa Lutz this year. This book is darker than the wacky Spellman series, but the main protagonist felt familiar: a screwed up woman in her late 20s with a love for dive bars. The story is fast-paced, and Lutz is great at keeping the mystery going. Another reviewer described it as a three-star book that she had a four-star time reading. I️ feel exactly the same way.
My main issues were more about the characters’ personalities than plot. For example, while I liked Domenic generally, I found his stalkerish tendencies annoying and a little bothersome (like, am I really supposed to root for this guy when he acts like this?!). He also really overused “sweetheart” and “darling.” Tanya, et al., got on my nerves from time to time too because she could be so selfish. And, I️ definitely had mixed feelings about Blue. But, overall a good thriller that was a fun ride. 3.5/5 stars.

Started off pretty slow & I really missed the humor of the Spellman Files. But once I accepted it wasn't another Spellman book, I really enjoyed it.

Whoa! Do NOT start reading this book if you need to sleep, tend to small children or have anything else that needs to be taken care of. If you're anything like me, you will be held hostage until you finish. I don't even know how to classify this story. It has mystery, humor, darkness, light, romance, suspense, sadness and enough twists and turns to make your head spin. It was a great ride.
