I can't get over how beautiful these books are. Fiona Staples should be listed as a second author. Without her, it's just clever dialog. With her, though, it's visually engaging and interesting and often totally bizarre (see also: baby harp seal leading walking, saddled walrus/hippo). Every frame is colored beautifully and the characters shine through their appearance as well as their snappy one-liners.

And Alana. Alana is my everything. She's Kate Bishop with wings and a better haircut. (I can't wait to find out what happened to her wings, anyway.)

Highly recommended to anyone who wants to try an adult graphic novel with all the fun of a comic book.

How did I stay away from this series for so long? MY LIFE IS FOREVER CHANGED. The first volume was amazing, absolutely, but the second volume really gets into not only the gravity of our heroes situation, but also their backstories! I have never said "OH MY GOD" or "NO!" so many times and with such conviction as I have while reading this book. The intermittent narration by Hazel is pithy and shows up right where you need it, right where you appreciate it. I am blown away by not just the worlds, the war, the stories, but by how visceral my responses have been whilst reading. It is equally entertaining as it is thought-provoking, and I cannot recommend this series enough.

Last night and this morning, I went back and reread the first dozen issues before reading issue 13. Now I'm looking at my rating of five and thinking, "I wish I could make it about a seven out of five."

Seriously - Brian Vaughan is a brilliant writer and Fiona Staples art is a perfect match. I'm not a fan of the "graphic novel" description, but this is far more than my normal "comic book". This is a story that transcends the medium of comic books.

Am I gushing? Am I sounding like some slobbering fan-boy? Yep. LOVE THIS SERIES!

Another great addition. A little less iconic and a little less going on than the first, but still good nonetheless. I love how this series is narrated by Hazel. I also love Prince Robot; his story and species are very interesting. It was also great to see Marko’s parents and to get more background on his and Alana’s relationship.

The Will and Lying Cat are officially my favorite characters, though I also love Marko’s dad. Who is amazing. Omg.

Doing a Saga re-read since the series just returned from its three-year hiatus and issue #55 is out!

Volume Two slows the pace down a bit from Volume One but that doesn’t mean it’s not exciting - new characters, new planets, and some space action! As before, accompanied by breathtaking art.
