I liked this a lot at the beginning but it started to lose steam for me at the end… to the point that I don’t care to read the ending of the duet. I don’t know what I was expecting for the ending I just know the author lost me with the ending. I don’t know how else to explain it.

"To break a person of their will, you have to break their hold on life itself."

I don't know what I just read, but I loved it! Born, darkly was hauntingly engaging, and I could not put the book down! This is not your ordinary book which makes it all the more amazing! The psychology/ true crime buff in me loves every dark and twisted chapter of this book. I saw this recommended on Booktok. Before I read this book, I'm not going to lie; I was like, this is giving me Harley Quinn and Joker vibes with a horror movie twist!

"When I look into his eyes, I see myself. Not a reflection of the woman—but the hollow echo of my blood-stained soul."

Dr. London Noble is a criminal psychiatrist, and she has just taken on this new patient Grayson Sullivan. He is a serial killer waiting for trial, and Dr. Noble assesses him. She thinks she has it all under control because she's a professional and the top of her field, but little does Dr. Noble know Grayson has ulterior motives. She is transfixed by Grayson, seduced by him and his manipulative ways, and falls for him. Dr. Noble's past abuse and loss are revealed in a complex way by Grayson. In some ways, she is twisted, dark, and broken, just like Grayson, and she starts to realize it after he breaks out of prison and holds her captive.

"I hate you," I whisper. "You hate everything but me."

This book ends on a cliffhanger, and I cannot wait to see how the story ends. Born, Darkly is my first book by Trisha Wolfe, and I recommend this book to anyone who loves dark romance with a thrilling twist. I will most definitely read more books by this author in the future.

*****5 Dexter meets Saw stars!*****

I would first and foremost like to say this author is UNDERRATED. Every time I read one of her books, I'm like why aren't more people reading this?

For real, she is an intelligent writer. I'm a psychology buff, I even got a degree in it, so I could be a bit bias on THIS book. Her others are just as good.

The reader is pulled in from the very start, London is in court doing what she does best, and I was going to say getting murders off, but that's just wrong. HA

No, she is getting them off death row, but is she really?

I joke, kind of. Well, London really doesn't want to work in the prison system anymore, she wants to move on. She has other patients that need her. She's under contract and the last one is Grayson. Last inmate that is.

Grayson is like Dexter meets Saw, and it is fucked up, to say the least. He only kills bad guys so you feel okay when you find yourself wanting to see him naked.

So we get into his head, well at least try. We learn throughout the book that Grayson is the one who gets in our heads. Okay not our, but Londons. Whatever.

The book has a lot of twists and some steaming scenes. It was freaking fantastic. Read it! It's great!

This has been recommended to me so many times, but I’ve always felt the premise was too far out of my comfort zone for me to ever be able to truly enjoy. I truly thought our author was going to romanticize murder and tell the tale of a weak minded psychologist, who was so lonely she found herself finding comfort in a serial killer. Second before opening this, I told my husband I thought it was going to be a cheap play off of Harley Quinn & the Joker....

Boy, oh boyyyy, was your girl wrong.

I found my self saying “ohhhh SHITTTTT” and receiving crazy side glances more than one time through this. There were twists and secrets that I didn’t see coming. The push and pull seemed to constantly be there.. like Jesus just fuck already. I mean, is the relationship toxic as fuck by the end? Yes. But I’m here for it!

Though this is more of a psychological thriller and the romance is in the back seat, my hope is it’s the build up to the “love story” in the second book.

I’m a little nervous going into the second book, because I usually HATE duets. Let’s see how it goes for this series.

The story was so well done., I literally cannot rave about it enough. 10/10, will always recommend.

2.5-3 Stars.
The premise of the book was so intriguing but the book just missed hitting the nail on the head a bit. The chemistry between the characters was not that developed or believable and I found it somewhat difficult to actually believe the extent to which the author describes the characters to be psychotic.
This book could have been so great but I personally didn’t enjoy as much as I hoped I would’ve. Still debating as to whether or not to read the next one.

This was interesting... Was it fun and interesting, yes! Was it weird and disturbing at times, also yes! One thing that was a little annoying at times it was that the dudes whole personality was that he likes puzzles. I will be reading the next book as I have many questions!

To me this story was really intriguing, the dynamic between the characters i really enjoyed too.
The Main Male main character is a serial killer, and the main female character is his psychiatrist.
Keep in mind i did read this a while ago, but there's definitely parts of this one that has stuck with me. There's a mystery element to it, which I love when it comes to my darker romance books.

This is book one in a duet, so we definitely don't get all of our answers in this one.

3.5⭐️

I was in the mood for dark and that’s exactly what this was. a psychological thriller with a hint of heat and romance, I was captivated for the entirety of the book. I will say, however, that there wasn’t as much romance as I had expected. this didn’t take away from the book, but it did make it less of my personal taste. I am debating picking up book two because as interesting as this was, it was a bit confusing at times and I feel like I would be fine never reading the next half of the story.

How do you rate a novel like this one? While it certainly was not my cup of tea, and I have never read from the perspective of two characters who were this messed up, it was quite the experience. Trisha Wolfe definitely knows how to write a captivating tale, and the psychological aspect was one of my favorite parts. 3.5 stars.
