This book is part memoir, and part recipe book. I appreciated the honesty of the memoir; but didn't find myself immersed in the life depicted. Also, why anyone would want to open a restaurant remains a mystery to me. Then, I appreciate the writing of the recipes, but I wasn't interested in actually making any of them.

The best part was the creation of the pizza dough. (No recipe for that, which makes sense, given the process.)

My official rating is *shrug*

Note: Based on an ARC. This memoir delves into the hardships and strain opening a restaurant can bring on individuals. As someone who has worked in the industry, I appreciate the honesty the author talks about in terms of how hard it really is to run/work in a restaurant. I wasn't impressed with the writing but I understand that her tone is very conversational. I read it in one day and is worth a read for those looking for a light memoir about food. The recipes got lost in the ebook format so I would recommend people to read this in paper form.

Engaging and entertaining story of the realising of many people's dream - to open a restaurant. This one turned out to be very successful, even though the author was at first dragged kicking and screaming into what was really her husband's dream. Molly Wizenberg makes writing look easy. Reading her is like having a lively conversation with a very good friend.

I liked this a lot more than I thought I would. I am extremely disappointed I can't meet the people in the book or just order the food in it.

I enjoyed this a lot, but do feel as though the author was hesitant to truly expose her marriage through the tale (which really makes the fact that marriage is last in the list of the title stand out). I felt as though parts were an uncomfortable conversation that she didn't really want to have/share and that took away some of the effect for me. Overall, though, I really enjoyed the look into what goes into opening and running a restaurant. Really, I would read anything Molly Wizenberg writes.

People enjoy books like this because they love food and love to hear other people talk about food they love. Molly describes food in a way that you can FEEL the melting butter run down your hand as you just picked up the freshly slathered baguette slice. You can SMELL the warm yeast when she describes inspecting the pizza dough. For those of us who love food, we live to not only share the food, but our experiences with it.
Then, she reminds us WHY we love to share a table with someone: it is intimate and welcoming and ultimately how we share life together. There is something incredibly inviting and almost romantic about it. Food connects us and draws those in the shadows out and invites them.
I had not heard of Molly's blog but I certainly will head there after reading this book. Working for a very short time in the restaurant business, I knew it was a lot of hard work but am still amazed by all the work it takes to run a food establishment. You can tell they do well because of their commitment to good tasting food while making their customers feel like honored guests. The details of the business launch forced me to give only 3 stars simply because I wanted to see more food writing. Delightful read. I will plan to head to the blog regularly and if I should ever be in Seattle area will absolutely make a special trip to visit Delancey for a pizza.
