Reading this book was truely hard. I kept thinking it cannot get anymore fucked than this and I have never lost hope so quickly than in this book. 

It's not a grand happy ending but I am relieved the characters find some peace and love at the end of the road. I do not think the author could have explained how deep systemic racism can run in a more simplistic plot. It does not get better and it IS that fucked

The beginning of this novel was slower than I expected for a thriller (not my usual genre, neither is YA). I was frustrated when the two main characters hadn’t met a third of the way through the book. The story picked up toward the end. 

This story is very Pretty Little Liars meets Get Out and I fear that if you aren’t a fan of both of those, you might not get through the book. 

While the overall twist was quite predictable, the smaller twists and endings weren’t so it didn’t completely set me off. What did put me off a bit was the absolutely ridiculous choices the characters make…

Tackles sociopolitical issues in a provocative manner, Faridah Abike-Iyimide pushes the boundaries and isn't scared to do what needs to be done and said!
Beautiful and well fleshed out characters.
Brilliant writing.
The execution is flawless.
This is a must read!

Parts of this book made my heart swell, and others made me feel physically nauseous. This was intense, well-woven, and intense!
So close to a five star, but I felt some story lines stretched out a bit and the pacing became tedious.

a really fast paced and quick read. not the most intricate mystery i’ve ever read but engaging enough to keep me reading. the pretty little liars and gossip girl inspirations are very obvious so if you’re looking for something like that plus a little touch of mystery, would def recommend.
