WOW! I forgot how incredible Domin and Yuri’s story is. The intrigue, the suspense, the betrayals, the sex... ohmigod the sex! Yikes but these two are seriously smoking.
It was great to reread this after so many years and be able to reconnect with the characters and the story.

Loved and loathed this book.

Loved because Domin finally go to be loved for who he is and that the station or title he holds. Loved because his mate finally got his man and all that involved.

Loathed because of what I am naming "The Mary Calmes Separation Stipulation", or now TMCSS for short.

But loved for all that this was. For all that Domin has gone through and become. For all that he realizes he is and how strong he is with those he trusts and loves beside him.

But loathed for one certain fucking panther who keeps showing up and who I want to strangle. There is a chance for minor redemption but I swooned over you once and only once dude. You fucked over a good man one too many times, I can't forgive and forget.

Anyway. This was a great addition to the series. I love Domin and his sekhem and their new path to breathe new life into ancient laws.

This isn't my favorite book in the series, but I still found it very enjoyable. I think the hardest part about reading this is that it's been ages since I read the last book and it took me a little while to figure out/remember everything that was going on to start this book. I'd give this 4.5 stars with it losing a little just because there are so many names and titles that it gets a bit confusing.

Domin is now living in the lost city of Sobek as the new semen-aten, he and Yuri are happy together, but there are a lot of changes that he feels need to come down line. But Domin isn't sure he's really the right man for this job. He's in charge of all the werepanthers in the world now, and how is he to truly manage all that. But Yuri is convinced he can do it, and together first they've got to solidify their standing in Egypt. There's a rival faction out there and they'll stop at nothing to disrupt Domin claiming his rightful place with Yuri by his side.

So take out the fact that I'm not even sure I had all the titles straight by the end (I've got most of them ;)) at least once I orientated myself I kept track of all the people threatening Domin and Yuri's lives. This story had layers with the level of the conspiracies. As each one was handled it peeled back to be one more thing that these guys had to deal with. I enjoyed the plot of this book more than I expected to actually. I liked seeing Jin show up and his insecurity with his new changes with Logan and their fatherhood.

Altogether this story was a nice addition to the series. I like seeing Domin and Yuri so solidified in their relationship. Domin's past has been dealt with between them and they are incredibly secure in what they mean to each other now.

Going into this book I haven't had a clue that it will have a different pov than the rest of the series, but it was such a relief!
Although I love Jin, I probably don't have enough fingers to count how many times his relationship with Logan made me uncomfortable. Plus I felt like their story was over and I really didn't want to read about them having kids.

Domin and Yuri on the other hand...! Even if the plot was weaker, it was so nice to read about a 100% healthy and stable relatinship. Can't wait to see where the last book will bring me.

LMAO

Okay so I didn't think I would enjoy reading through Domin's pov this much but, boy, I do. Perhaps this is because Domin reminds me of myself. And this whole book has been a hysterically hilarious journey, I swear to God. I like the way things are wrapped up towards the end. It's also refreshing to see Jin and Logan from other person's pov, it makes me realize many things I didn't before and appreciate them more.

Also, I just love Domin and Yuri together. Like, I know everyone in this series is all like, "Jin and Logan are true-mates and it's how we all strive to be!" but nope, Domin and Yuri are my relationship goal. I like love that is based on companionship and their relationship is just that.

Imma be honest I skimmed this whole book only really reading when Jin or crane was involved lol! The side couple were the MC’s for this book and although I enjoyed them I’m not sure if this book really helped in any way towards the plot?? Either way I do love all the characters!

Update
I read in other reviews that Jin actually appeared in the second half of this book so I persevered and skimmed over the annoying repetition and the second half of the book was much better. So I upped my rating to three stars.

DNF @ 30%
I liked the other books in the series. But after reading the previous books this one was just a constant rehashing of everything that had already happened (in the guise of conversation between characters) and re-explaining ad nauseum what was going on, what terms meant etc. There was very little in the way of actual romance in this one at least the first 30% and I just couldn’t bear to keep reading about the same stuff I already knew; it was so boring.

A bit too much politics but still engaging. Now...back to Jin and Logan

The Were-panthers are back and sexy as ever!

This book starts just a few months after Honored Vow ends and we are back in the secret city of Sobek with Domin and his inner circle as they try to settle in and start trying to change hundreds of years of thinking and laws. I always feel like I am navigating a visit with the Queen when I read one of these books. There are so many archaic laws and procedures it makes you wonder how this race has survived when they have made almost no changes to adapt.

But lets be honest it's the characters that bring me back to these stories over and over again. What new power is Jin going to acquire....how much trouble is he going to cause and get into?? And why this may be Domin's book, Jin is definitely in the middle of everything.

The world that Ms. Calmes has created is original and her stories are always fast paced. While they may have a lot of angst, at the heart of every book is the love that the characters have not just for their mates but for the people they consider family. I always walk away from these books with a strong sense of family... especially the ones we choose not the ones we are born into.

I can't wait to see what adventures these character's will survive and thrive through next!
