Meh. The only memorable story was the last one, imo.

3.5 Stars, some of the stories were a bit hit and miss. There were at least 3 stories with creepy male main characters who were written to be likable people but were still breaching the consent of their female friends/partners. A lot of the male main characters were hard to like, which may have been the point perhaps.
My favourite story was Air Mail.

I wanted to like these stories more, because Middlesex is one of my all-time favorite books, but they were too depressing.

I actually forgot that I already read this a few months ago and bought it again. That goes some way to explaining how memorable it is. Weirdly not that good, I reckon this guy is better at his novels than his short stories.

It's rare that I read a collection of short stories and give it 5 stars. There's nearly always a dud story or two (or more) which bring the rating down. But Fresh Complaint is that rare exception: I loved every story. Okay there were some I loved more than others, but all of them created a unique world, with characters that were quirky and real, with wonderful writing, and nearly always with an ending that satisfied. Characters are transformed, regretful, and sneaky. My favourite is probably Fresh Complaint. I started to write what happened, but you know what, you should just go and read it. Read them all.
