As fun as the Jonathan Coulton song that inspired it, with lots of very fun and colorful art by Takeshi Miyazawa that is full of cute characters and fun actions.
I can see this being a very fun bedtime read for young readers who enjoy music.

Happy thanks to NetGalley and KaBOOM! for the early read!

I knew this would be a fun look at a song in illustrated form. Best of all it's none of the typical kidnapping, just an exaggerated look of how a child spends their day. You really gotta love how artists like Jonathan Coulton write songs like this how Greg Pak keeps it flowing and how Takeshi Miyazawa illustrates it. These three people are really just having a good time and sharing it with others.

This book is fantabulous. Wonderiforous. Splendimarvelous. Any other made-up word that means "awesome" that you want to use.

It's a classic children's story, except the Princess saves herself, and some people who live nearby, instead of relying on a boy to do everything for her. It gives girls agency and a vested interest in the story. The art is gorgeous. The story beats are fun. The concept is deserving of a smile. Who doesn't want to live in a castle by themselves and play guitar and eat cake with their pet snake? The story is all sorts of fun, and I dare you to not crack a grin while reading it. It is based on a song by Jonathan Coulton, geek rocker extraordinaire, and lovingly brought to artistic life by Greg Pak.

Recommended for: the young at heart.

Guitars! Dragons! Giant bees! A snake eating cake!
Excellent book. Greg Pak was even kind enough to sign it to my two girls. Highly recommend.

Oops, when i backed this on Kickstarter I didn't realize that either 1) it was a sequel or 2) we didn't own the first book. Still enjoyable on its own, a short but needed lesson on being nice to your friends even if they're not "the best" at whatever you're trying to do. Wide variety of kids, dragons, and other friends at the Battle of the Bands makes this perfect for children.

'The Princess Who Saved Herself' by Greg Pak with illustrations by Takeshi Miyazawa is a picture book inspired by a song by Jonathan Coulton.

In this story, the princess is an awesome kid who plays guitar and has a pet snake. The evil queen is annoyed by the noise and sends a dragon to stop the princess, but not much can stop this princess. The ending takes a nice turn.

I loved this rhyming heartfelt book. If my children were younger, we'd have a great time reading and laughing out loud. The illustrations are just fantastic!

I received a review copy of this ebook from BOOM! Studios and NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. Thank you for allowing me to review this ebook.

Cute graphic novel that would be great for a younger audience. It's a short story about friendship and sticking by your friends, even in tough times. Overall, I think this would make a great addition to any library or your personal collection.
