I didn’t DNF this but it was so bad I gave it 1 ⭐️.

I’ve read the actual novels of this series and they were so much better.

Not as awesome as the Sookie Stackhouse books, but a lot more believable.

Its odd staring a new series like this and being thrown right into the middle of someones life. I felt like I had missed the first two books before this one, yet after multiple confirmations was quite clear that this was the first in the series.

Written in such an unassuming first person voice that makes it easy to read and easy to be drawn in. But like most Harris books her execution is disappointing.

While I love the concept and material, I just wish Harris were better at telling an interesting story.

Fun and a quick read. Not as good as the Sookie books, but I did enjoy it. I think the main difference is there are no characters in this one that I loved immediately. We'll see how the series progresses.

I really enjoy this series (even though I'm reading it out of order). A quick and easy read. Great to keep my interest while I'm on the treadmill.

I really just like Charlaine's stories. Her characters are normal people with weird quirks and everyday hobbies and concerns - but then a little extra. She writes romance in an almost flat, realistic way that completely avoids the stereotypical paranormal "YOU ARE MY SOUL MATE FOR THIS LIFE AND THE NEXT" or even the romance novel "hmmm, I like you... no wait, I love you, babies!". It's refreshing. Then, her mysteries are the sorts of things you are unsurprised to read about in small southern towns. Plus, small southern towns! I guess... maybe, they're just stories . The characters have a bit going on to keep things interesting, but otherwise, when you read a Charlaine Harris novel, you are reading a fun mystery story. Nothing more, nothing less. Safe. Satisfying.

When a woman linked to one of Harpers jobs is killed, police is giving her and her brother a hard time.

Again, these comics are so short! And this part was mostly dialogue, a little boring for a graphic novel.

After re-reading the Sookie Stackhouse series several times, I decided to venture out and check the other series Harris has written. I enjoyed it very much.
It is a great idea, a great story and written in her familiar way that just makes you want to keep reading. The tone is clearly different from the Sookie books in that Harper is less upbeat and more pessimistic, but who wouldn't be, when you're living in motels and experience death all the time? A good read. On to #2!

This was an easy read, and as enjoyable as Harris' other books. However, the e-book had quite a few errors in it that irritated me while trying to read it.

I loved this book, and the main characters in particular. Harper is not your typical heroine. She is strong in her way, and stands up for herself, but she does not fit the model of 'goodness'that many might expect. She has an eye for business as well as a conscience. A fast-passed, short read, it is very different from the Sookie Stackhouse series but just as engaging. Can't wait till the next arrives.
