Decent Stephen King book about a son's journey to get to his mom after she's had a stroke. I think it has good tension with the son hoping his mom hasn't died before he gets there, especially after the spooky driver he shared a ride with. Not my favorite but kept my attention.

short story, scary!

Riding the Bullet is a heartfelt story of a man's relationship with his mother. There is horror and a ghost story angle, but there is a lot more going on beneath the plot points. This was written after Stephen King's mother died and the emotion he puts into the story is palpable. This is King at his best.

In Riding the bullet Parkers mother has a stroke and is in the only hospital 120 miles away. Parker only owning a non-drivable car now must hitchhike his was to see his sick mother. Parker catches a ride with an old man who parker will only let him drive him 20 miles out from the hospital but the old man insists he must come with him but parker decides to still decline. Parker must now walk to a new spot to catch a ride on his way he stumbles into a graveyard and stares at the graves praying his 48 year old mother will not end up there so soon. Parker trips and hits his head on a nearby grave and passes out in real life but in his head he hitches a new ride with another old man who he later finds out the man was dead. While in the car the dead man gives parker only two choices of either his mother dying and him living or him dying and his mother living. The dead’s man purpose was to teach parker that he should never put himself in front of others who are in life threating condition.
The people who like suspense and horror would be interested in this book. The book is constantly leading you to believe that one thing may happen but instead a totally new this comes into play. I would recommend this book to anyone who want to be drawn into a suspenseful horror book and can barely put it down.
I was very satisfied with this book because it constantly reels you into the story and you can barely put the book down. The book relates you to the main character then breaks everything you thought you knew about parker was all a lie. Later when the book is finished you learn that the dead man was all a hoax and that parker is giving up his selfish ways and bond with his sick mother.

a good short one for spooky season
