Spruce Texas #2. Born Again Sinner take place a few years after Tanner and Billy's book. Cody is home and injured from the military. he is not doing well mentally or physically and his mother is at her wit's end. She hires Trey, the preacher's son as a visiting nurse to try to help Cody in anyway way he can. Trey is instantly attracted to Cody but is determined to do what he can to help Cody rejoin the living. Another small town romance.

3.5 stars.

This was okay, to be honest, there were parts where I didn’t really like either MC. I especially wanted Trey to grow a spine with his father - he was already out, I didn’t see mentioning Cody as that bad. And he’s a grown man who can go out. I also like how he just took off and said he needed space from Cody. Then of course he’s like the classic stupid heroine and almost dies by going off.

3.5 stars. I don't always enjoy heavy themes of real-life religion in romance books, but I didn't feel like it was too much in this one. And I liked that the animosity between Trey and Cody didn't go on for too long even though they obviously continued to have differences and minor conflicts between them. There was a lot of good chemistry and nice relationship development. My biggest issue was with the large cast of side characters; even though I read the first book in the series not too long ago I still felt overwhelmed trying to remember who everyone was (something I gave up on after a while).

another lovely texas small town romance, for me personally the whole priest son thing got old quite quickly but i know that is probably just a me thing haha

i also would’ve liked some more detail to cody’s background in the military, it’s hinted at a lot but never quite explored

A sexy, swoony romance!

I think this may be my first book by Daryl Banner. Who says men can't write good romance? Liars!

Banner took "seducing the preacher's son" to a whole new level. A level that shows respect for people living disparate lives. This is a beautiful middle ground achieved through love. Cody and Trey were so good for each other. Supporting, exploring, challenging and helping each other become better men.

The sweet pot is the community created in this story. It's filled with so many "real life" characters. You can't help but fall in love with everyone even while you're rolling your eyes at them. Banner captured not only the twang of small town Texas, but also the lifestyle of it. This may be a hopeful kind of portrayal, but I have hope that sooner or later they will all be as accepting and filled with joy as this one is.

The blurb for the book is a really good one. I don't feel the need to discuss the plot in detail because it's already done so well in the description above. I'm officially a new fan. :-)

For how long this book is supposed to be, I need to bow out now. The writing was almost childlike but also super cringy and sexual. I'm also not one for heavy religious themes in my books.

Sweet, sexy (VERY sexy) and full of emotional family revelations that had me SOBBING. For every queer soul out there who was raised in a religious household who felt repressed and fighting to be seen by a parent who held their child to a different standard... This book hits HARD. (But in a good way) Also, the way it deals with PTSD and parental loss is touching and warm, I cried multiple times while reading Cody and Trey 's POVs. Definitely going on my faves pile. ❤❤❤
